Greetings! I enjoy sailing and am available to crew. I volunteer on the V5 and have crewed on various vessels, both sail and motor. I was a boat partner for Beneteau 11.5 Idylle, but no longer own that boat. I have taken ASA 101 & 103. Experienced going through the locks.
Goal is longer cruises, learn racing techniques (i.e. spinnaker) eventually skippering my own boat. If I can help on your boat, I'd love to!

Thought you might enjoy this....

http://www.galleywenchtales.com/2012/11/dinghy-disruptions-again.html http://www.galleywenchtales.com/2012/12/spending-for-safety-dinghy-dramas-done.html

Update: We took our new dinghy out.... and ran it out of gas! Long row back to the boat. Not a mistake we're likely to make again.

And a question... I would love some sage advice on when to do regular manual laundry versus when to do the ammonia wash.

Cheers!

Thank you for sending this along!

It brings back memories of paddling over 180 miles of the Columbia in the early 90's, soon after I purchased a kayak. I had decided to get on the water to make life more enjoyable while living in what for me was a challenging place. The Columbia River had long fascinated me as a wild river; still, I figured there was much to experience and learn.

I set off on a solo trip paddling my 14 ft Coaster and experiencing the river. I enjoyed paddling from Bridgeport to Richland, WA, over 6 days, experiencing the impacts of 5 dams, agriculture, recreation, the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, high winds, a screaming jet, training in a lonely canyon of the river (that nearly scared me to death!), migrant children playing along the bank at Vantage and much more.

The history and many people and faces of the Columbia will always fascinate me, but that little boat taught me that I could travel to the sea just as the River does. I decided to end my Columbia River paddle at Richland, where I lived, and head to Seattle for a 5 day sea kayaking class, knowing I wanted to learn how to travel in the Sound and around the San Juan's. The next 8 years brought kayaking trips around the San Juans, 5 weeklong trips to the west side of Vancouver Island and one to Jedediah Island east of Vancouver Island.

Happy memories from earlier years as I now write from sunny San Diego, living aboard Cascadia, a spacious and comfortable 25' Ranger Tug.

Anne Cox, planning to return with Cascadia to the NW when the Rhodies next bloom!

Dang! Wish I could be there for that. I'm working to overcome my know dyslexia which I consider knot funny!

We're getting ready to leave for 5 years of cruising. We're saying our goodbyes to friends and family in various places, whittling down our stuff to 6 commercial airline bags total for two, and finalizing our financial arrangements. We fly to St. Lucia, where our Pearson 365 ketch awaits in September.

I'm blogging about it at www.GalleyWenchTales.com & have a GalleyWenchTales Facebook page as well. It's a little behind currently, but am catching up. We spent 3 weeks sailing in Desolation Sound and 8 days crewing a restored 85' schooner from Roche Harbor to Santa Barbara.

Learned in the Washington Sea Grant First Aid Class I took 2 days later that when you fall in cold water, you have about 1 minute to get your breathing under control, then about 10 minutes of productive movement. After that, your motor skills drop way off -- even if you're a great athlete. That was a big "Aha" for me, as I consider myself a strong swimmer with lots of endurance, and would have figured I could do the breast stroke for quite a while to conserve energy. Instead, I would definitely go for a very focused freestyle. Good info that I hope I will never have cause to put to test.

BTW if you're interested in taking a Sea Grant First Aid class in the future
