Come, enjoy Mon., Aug. 19th NWWB Meeting: Children on Boats: Fostering Independence and Enjoyment Onboard for Youth and Families

Hi Gals,

NWWB is having a great August meeting on Monday the 19th at 7:00PM, RSVP if you can.   Enjoy an evening filled with ideas for having fun with and educating children or grandchildren about boats and boating. Sometimes at the dock and onboard it you’ll have the opportunity to help a child discover the fun to be had. It’s important for us to share our excitement about boating with young people; to help them build an enthusiasm that can continue throughout the years.

You can look forward to a lot of great information. You will learn things you can use yourself or share with other boaters to make boating more fun for everyone involved.

Meeting topic: Children on Boats: Fostering Independence and Enjoyment Onboard for Youth and Families

Presenter: Mindy Ross, Sailing Education Director at The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB)

Mindy will present opportunities and fun ways for families to enjoy boating and create life long memories.   Mindy will lead a discussion on how to encourage independence, confidence and enjoyment for youth on the docks and onboard.  She will be highlighting CWB’s unique programs that engage youth and families in authentic hands-on activities on the water and in the boat shop at South Lake Union and Cama Beach.  Along with program highlights.

Mindy Ross grew up on sail and power boats on the Great Lakes and has taught sailing professionally for over 21 years.  She has been involved with sailing community in PNW for the last 15 years and enjoys sailing with her husband and 4 year old son.   ——

Just a note to let you know that for the planned project of having a “piece of boat” at the Seattle Boat Show is still a go, but you will not have to teach how to tie knots or set the lines if volunteering.  It is going to be set up in a way that people can use illustrated cards that show them how to tie knots and set the lines.  In fact we are going to have not only staff at the information booth but roving concierge to answer questions.  It will be an exciting time to be involved with the Seattle Boat Show.
