Capt. Linda Lewis researches and stays informed about the latest digital tools for boaters. She is offering a valuable, one-of-a-kind program that will explore Apps and Websites that are helpful to boaters, as well as ideas for organizing them on tablets and smartphones.
Topics will include: weather (forecast & ‘wind now’); currents & tides; moon phase; sunrise-sunset; a variation calculator; compasses (plus a ‘hand-bearing’ type); AIS; knot tying; course to steer calculator (when the current is pushing you off); Navigation Rules; USCG Regulations; GPS test, etc.
Linda is asking attendees to bring to share the digital addresses of resources that they have already found, maybe something in the list above that you didn’t know you couldn’t live without. Be sure to note whether it is an App for iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android, or both. On the white board, we’ll write the addresses of interesting Apps or a useful Websites you have found
Linda holds a USCG 100 Ton Master’s License, teaches boat handling on your boat (www.privateboatinginstruction.com), and, as a USCG Auxiliary volunteer, teaches a 10-week Navigation course for the public that includes traditional paper charting skills and the use of the latest navigation electronics.
Please RSVP at email@example.com if you plan on attending so we may set up the room appropriatly and tell your boat-loving gal friends. Come and enjoy the evening.
